Despite the closure of the summer transfer market in England, Manchester United did not give up and is seeking to sign a striker already.
Italy's La Gazzetta Dello Sport reported that United wanted to sign Spanish Fernando Llorente in a free transfer, with a two-year contract.
United do not have many offensive options on their list after the departure of Belgian Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, without being replaced by an outright striker.
Llorente is an option for United after his contract with Tottenham Hotspur has expired and is not linked to any club at the moment.
Llorente, 34, played for Athletic Bilbao, Juventus, Sevilla and Swansea City before spending two seasons with Tottenham.
The 2010 World Cup-winning Spanish striker made 35 appearances last season, scoring eight goals, most notably against Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.
